David Domenech awarded with Intel PhD Honor Programme
26th October, 2012
On October 23rd the University Program Office at Intel honored 9 faculty and 25 doctoral students from European Union (EU) universities through two new innovative programs - the Early Career Faculty Honor Program (ECFHP) and the Doctoral Student Honor Programme (DSHP). Both of these programs award cash gifts intended to help support research and education as well as to enable the awardees to travel to Intel to collaborate with Intel researchers.
The Intel Doctoral Student Honor Programme awards fellowships to exceptional PhD candidates pursuing leading-edge innovation in fields related to Intel's business and research interests. The goal of the program is to advance innovation in key areas of technology, as well as develop a pipeline of world-class technical talent for Intel's future workforce and the global knowledge-based economy. The selection of this year's recipients was a highly competitive process with many outstanding quality applicants across several universities and exciting areas of research. For the 2012-2013 academic cycle, 25 finalists were selected from a pool of 66 applicants across 16 universities (UPV among them).
Congratulations to David Domenech!

Towards fabless photonic integration
15th October, 2012
VLC Photonics has released a new whitepaper entitled "Towards fabless photonic integration." In this paper, Pascual Muñoz, CEO of VLC Photonics, describes the emerging business model of pure-play photonic foundries and design-houses, and their roles for building true generic integration platforms.
The whitepaper is freely available as a download in our Technology Whitepapers section.

Jose Capmany invited to present at IPOS
1st October, 2012
Jose Capmany will be giving an invited talk at the Institute of Photonics and Optical Science (IPOS). The symposium will be held 5-6th of November 2012 at the Webster Theatre, organized by the University of Sydney (Australia). It will focus on the optical physics and technology, applications and future directions in the mid-infrared, terahertz waves and microwave regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. A key goal of the symposium is to seek ways to "bridge the gap" between near infrared photonics and the optics at these longer wavelength regions where so many existing and future applications depend.
If you would like to set up an appointment with him, just contact Jose Capmany at jose.capmany

VLC Photonics will exhibit at MWP 2012
25th July, 2012
The 2012 IEEE International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics (MWP 2012) is to provide a unique forum for researchers and professionals to exchange on new findings and developments in the area of microwave photonics. The conference will be held between 11-14 September 2012 at the Space Research and Technology Centre of the European Space Agency (ESA/ESTEC) in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.
Microwave Photonics (MWP) is an inter-disciplinary field which covers the interactions between microwave and optical waves for the generation, processing, control and distribution of microwave, millimetre-wave and THz signals. Microwave photonics technologies can find many applications such as in high-speed wireless communications networks, radar, sensors, and modern instrumentation.
VLC Photonics will be exhibiting at MWP2012, to showcase the opportunities for optical integration in the field of microwave photonics. If you would like to set an appointment with VLC's representatives there, please contact Iñigo Artundo at inigo.artundo
