It is only one month left for the 15th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON 2013), to be hosted at the El Batel Auditorium and Convention Center, Cartagena, Spain, during June 23-27, 2013. The focus of this conference is on the applications of transparent and all-optical technologies in telecommunications, computing and novel applications.
During its first day, Sunday 23rd, there will be a symposium on “How to create a photonic SME”, with invited talks by successful entrepreneurs in the optics sector like Milton Chang (former president/CEO of Newport Corporation and New Focus), Laurent Malier (CEO CEA Leti) and many others. The full program of the symposium is available on the ICTON 2013 Conference Programme and on the Workshop brochure.
Pascual Muñoz, CEO and founder of VLC Photonics has been invited to give a talk at this workshop, on “The Photonic fabless model”. Additionally, Erik Pennings, Business Development Director of VLC will also give a talk on “Crystallizing your company strategy and implementing it”. Do not hesitate to contact them at pascual.munoz(at)vlcphotonics.com and erik.pennings(at)vlcphotonics.com to talk to them during the symposium.
The next Photonics21 Annual Meeting will take place on the 29th and 30th April 2013 in Brussels, Belgium. The event will provide the latest information on the new European Framework Programme Horizon2020 and the further development towards a Photonics Public Private Partnership. Another major highlight will be the publication of the photonics strategic roadmap which has been worked out by the European photonics community.
At the same time, the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) general assembly will also take place on the 29th April in Brussels.
As VLC Photonics belongs to both organizations, our CEO Pascual Muñoz (pascual.munoz(at)vlcphotonics.com) and our CIO David Domenech (david.domenech(at)vlcphotonics.com) will be present at both events, so please drop them an email in advance if you would like to set up a meeting there.
The Fotonica Evenement (or Photonics Event) will gather in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, during the 24-25th April 2013, the most relevant actors in the Benelux and Europe on the photonics field. With more than 50 exhibitors, lectures on photonic applications or the latest state of the art in the field, and multiple related workshops, the Fotonica Evenement holds its place as one of the most important European photonics related events of the year.
Our CTO Jan Hendrik den Besten (jan.hendrik.den.besten(at)vlcphotonics.com) will be present at the event only the first day, on Wednesday 24th April, and will actively participace in the industrial and research matchmaking sessions, so feel free to contact him to arrange a meeting.
The 21st LASER World of PHOTONICS conference and exhibit will soon be held in Munich, from May 13th to 16th, 2013. With more than 1,000 exhibitors and almost 30,000 attendees, it is ranked among the three largest optics shows in the world.
Our CMO Iñigo Artundo will be introducing the latest developments and activities of VLC Photonics at the Hall B2, Booth 362. If you are interested in our solutions for photonic integration and optical chip design, do not hesitate and contact him at inigo.artundo(at)vlcphotonics.com to arrange a meeting at the exhibit.
UPDATE [22 May 2013] Carlos Lee from EPIC featured all member companies exhibiting at the show in a nice video, you can check it out at: EPIC video on LASER show.
Did you ever wonder what are the steps to integrate a complete optical system into a single photonic chip? We have prepared an illustrative poster that covers all these steps, from the initial system drafting, passing through the chip design and manufacturing, until the later packaging of the optical integrated circuit.
If you would like to learn more, or you have an optical system that you would like to see miniaturized, do not hesitate and drop us a line at info(at)vlcphotonics.com
With more than 12,000 visitors and 550+ companies, OFC/NFOEC stands as one of the largest optical telecom exhibitions in the world. This year, the Technical Conference (17-21 March 2013) and Exposition (19-21 March 2013) will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA, US. There will be sessions on the following topics:
Our Business Development Director Erik Pennings will be visiting the exhibit. Do not hesitate and contact him at erik.pennings(at)vlcphotonics.com to arrange a meeting at the exhibit.
Moreover, the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz Institute (HHI) will be exhibiting at its booth 1807 a case study of one of our InP chips, fabricated at their facilities through the EuroPIC initiative. You can find the one-pager also for download at our whitepapers section.
NASA’s Techbriefs is a monthly magazine featuring exclusive reports of innovations developed by NASA and its industry partners, and articles on successful NASA spinoffs, tech transfer resources and patents, industry products, news briefs, and application stories and literature. It spans a wide array of fields, including electronics, physical and computer sciences, photonics, or manufacturing/fabrication.
On this month’s issue, Twan Korthorst and Remco Stoffer, CEO and Product Specialist of PhoeniX Software respectively, contributed an article entitled “Using Photonic Design Automation Tools”, where they discuss the advantages of using an automated software design framework for photonic foundries and PIC designers. As an example of a successful development using this methodology, VLC Photonics/UPV’s receiver chip was featured, comparing the excellent match of simulation vs. tested performance.
