Test Engineer


The Test Engineer position at VLC Photonics requires a high knowledge of optics and photonics technology and practical experience on an optical laboratory, measurement equipment and tools. It is essential to have a Master or Ph.D. in Optics/Photonics, or in Semiconductors. The role’s main duties are:


  • Technical characterization and test activities for different material and applications.

  • Measurement processing and reporting.

  • Automatization of instruments and tools.

  • Development of assembly and automated testing processes.

  • Supervision of technical tasks performed by less skilled technical personnel in your team.

  • Collaboration in the preparation of customer and R&D proposals.

  • Projects customer management.

Laboratory Technician


A Laboratory Measurement Technician at VLC Photonics must have a basic knowledge of optical and electronic measurement equipment, such as oscillators, spectrum analysers, current sources, etc., and have higher level professional training, preferably Technical Engineering. The role's main duties are:


  • Assist in the management of the characterization laboratory.

  • Design and fabrication of simple electronic control devices.

  • Maintenance and calibration of the instrumentation at VLC photonics laboratories. Keep laboratories under operational condition.

  • Perform reception, visual inspection, and shipment of Photonic Integrated Circuits.

Senior PIC Designer


VLC Photonics is looking for an experienced Senior PIC Designer Engineer with a Master or Ph.D. in Optics/Photonics, Semiconductors, or similar fields, with a high knowledge of Integrated Optics Circuits, and a strong foundation of physics, especially in optics and electromagnetism. The candidate needs to have a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in Integrated Optics design and simulation. The role’s main duties are:


  • Lead and coach a PIC engineering team.

  • Design and optimize active and passive Photonic Integrated Circuits.

  • Propose and implement innovative design solutions.

  • Test development and lead the test data analysis of your devices to correlate design with measurements.

  • Collaborate with all other functional teams in the organization to deliver co-designed and co-optimized photonics systems.

  • Foundry and software provider interfacing.

  • Collaboration in the preparation of customer and R&D proposals and project tasks.

  • Customer interfacing.

  • Plan and monitor resources and activities within the PIC Design team.

Design Engineer


A PIC Designer Engineer at VLC Photonics needs to have a high knowledge of optics and photonics technology and got a Master or Ph.D. in Optics/Photonics or in Semiconductors. A great Photonic Integrated Circuit design skillset and Python user knowledge are required. The role’s main duties are:


  • Modelling, simulation, design and layout of active and passive photonic components and circuits.

  • Foundry and software provider interfacing.

  • Supervision of technical tasks performed by less skilled technical personnel.

  • Collaboration in the preparation of customer and R&D proposals and project tasks.

  • Customer interfacing.

Application Engineer


The Application Engineer role at VLC Photonics requires a Master preferably in optics, photonics or opto-electronics, as well as experience in project management, customer interfacing and/or business development and marketing, and availability to travel internationally. The role’s main duties are:


  • Technical evaluation and review.

  • Customer accounts and project management.

  • Commercial activities and business development in the field of photonic integration.

  • Representing the company at different physical and online events.

  • Collaboration with marketing related to the company's activities.

  • Collaboration with relevant business areas at internal and public funded R&D projects.
