Application Engineer


An Application Engineer at VLC Photonics is a person who has an Engineering degree, preferably in Physics, Telecommunications, Microelectronics/RF, Optics/Photonics, or similar, experience in project management, customer interfacing and/or business development and marketing and the availability for international travelling. The role’s main duties are:


  • Photonic integration opportunities: technical evaluation and review.

  • Customer accounts and project management.

  • Commercial activities and business development in the field of photonic integration.

  • Representing the company at different physical and online events.

  • Collaboration with marketing related to the company's activities (conferences and exhibitions, workshops and trainings, networking events, promotional material, etc.).

  • Collaboration with other VLC departments on relevant business areas at internal and public funded R&D projects.

  • Monthly, quarterly and yearly reporting and forecasting.

Photonic Test Engineer


A Photonic Test Engineer at VLC Photonics requires person who has a Master or Ph.D. in Optics/Photonics, or in Semiconductors, as well as ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests, bare die (chip) level and/or wafer level opto-electronic characterization and test skills and availability for international travelling. The role’s main duties are:



  • Perform opto-electronic wafer-level testing for different material platforms (silicon photonics, SiN, InP, PLC) and applications.

  • Development of automated testing processes.

  • Automatization of test instruments and tools.

  • Supervision of technical tasks performed by technicians and/or interns.

  • Collaboration in the preparation of customer and R&D proposals and projects.

  • Customer management.


Test Engineer


The Test Engineer position at VLC Photonics requires a high knowledge of optics and photonics technology and practical experience on an optical laboratory, measurement equipment and tools. It is essential to have a Master or Ph.D. in Optics/Photonics, or in Semiconductors. The role’s main duties are:


  • Technical characterization and test activities for different material and applications.

  • Development of automated testing processes

  • Measurement processing and reporting.

  • Automatization of instruments and tools.

  • Development of assembly and automated testing processes.

  • Supervision of technical tasks performed by less skilled technical personnel in your team.

  • Collaboration in the preparation of customer and R&D proposals.

  • Projects customer management.

Characterization Laboratory Manager


A Characterization Laboratory Manager at VLC Photonics must have experience in photonic integration technology and its ecosystem; hands-on experience in a photonic laboratory, measurement equipment and tools, PIC characterization, and test skills. The candidate needs to have an engineering degree on Physics, Telecommunications, Microelectronics/RF, Optics/Photonics, or similar. The role's main duties are:



  • Conduct PIC characterization activities.

  • Delegate technical responsibilities and monitor the progress of projects.

  • Review all work produced by the technical team.

  • Report progress, including any changes made to plans and production to higher management.

  • Support application/sales engineers for customer projects.

  • Support to other internal R&D activities and customer projects as required.


Senior PIC Designer


VLC Photonics is looking for an experienced Senior PIC Designer Engineer with a Master or Ph.D. in Optics/Photonics, Semiconductors, or similar fields, with a high knowledge of Integrated Optics Circuits, and a strong foundation of physics, especially in optics and electromagnetism. The candidate needs to have a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in Integrated Optics design and simulation. The role’s main duties are:


  • Lead and coach a PIC engineering team.

  • Design and optimize active and passive Photonic Integrated Circuits.

  • Propose and implement innovative design solutions.

  • Test development and lead the test data analysis of your devices to correlate design with measurements.

  • Collaborate with all other functional teams in the organization to deliver co-designed and co-optimized photonics systems.

  • Foundry and software provider interfacing.

  • Collaboration in the preparation of customer and R&D proposals and project tasks.

  • Customer interfacing.

  • Plan and monitor resources and activities within the PIC Design team.

Junior Project Coordinator


A Junior Project Coordinator at VLC Photonics requires a minimum of 1 year of industrial project coordination experience in a team, a project management certification and an engineering education or similar. The role's main duties are:



  • Coordinating 1-6 small projects in parallel.

  • Reporting to Operations manager each project plan status weekly.

  • Supporting sales department to build project plan at the quotation stage.

  • Updating ERP system (based in Odoo) with new projects and relevant information.

  • Project coordination: from writing project brief support to capturing lessons learned.

  • Responsibility for on-time and on-scope delivery.

  • Liaison with stakeholders to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives.
