Photonic Integration Consultancy

Leveraging our extensive experience in optical systems, product development and photonic integration technology, VLC Photonics offers comprehensive consultancy services. Whether you are diving into the potential of photonic integration for a specific application or industry, VLC Photonics can guide you through the entire process.
In the initial R&D and proof-of-concept phases, we can assist you with a thorough evaluation for integrating a particular optical system into a photonic chip.

This involves:

  • Definition and review of PIC specifications and requirements.
  • Exploration of material platforms, such as Silicon photonics (SOI, SiN, SiO2/PLC), III-V materials (InP, GaAs, etc.), and cutting edge platforms like Thin film Lithium Niobate(TFLN), BTO, polymers, AlO2 or Graphene.
  • Supply chain analysis, including a Sselection of suitable foundries and packaging solutions.
  • Preliminary modelling, simulation, and floor-planning for the proposed implementation.

Moreover, VLC Photonics provides invaluable support for techno-economic evaluation with a focus on business aspects.

This includes:

  • Cost estimations at each stage, covering prototyping, engineering/pilot production, and volume production.
  • Planning and timing of product development iteration cycles.
  • Identification of design and test challenges and risks, at the start and during the scaling-up process.

By engaging with VLC Photonics in your photonic integration journey, you gain a strategic partner committed to ensuring your success.

The main topics covered in the design trainings are waveguides and couplers, Mach-Zehnder interferometers, ring resonators, thermo optics, circuit simulation and mask layout.

Whereas the class lab and hands-on characterization trainings cover a wide range of topics such as an introduction to optical and DC equipment, how a PIC characterization setup works, how to perform both active and passive measurements, and finally, how to process and analyse the extracted data. Participants have also the opportunity to fabricate their designs.
