Post-Digital Project: Successful assembly by VLC Photonics marks project’s end

POST-DIGITAL Project yields innovative Integrated programmable spectral filter for advanced neuromorphic computing platform.

VLC Photonics in the framework of the POST-DIGITAL project, funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 860360, has developed an integrated programmable spectral filter in the C-band tailored to manipulate the optical frequency comb within our frequency multiplexing neuromorphic computing platform. This filter allows precise control over the attenuation of 16 separate wavelength channels, each spaced by 20 GHz.

The fabrication of the chip was carried out by Advanced Micro Foundry (AMF) in Singapore, while we were in charge of its characterization and assembly.

The programmable spectral filter is based on chip-On-Board (CoB) module in the form of Electro-Optical assembly with a PCB multicurrent sources of 40 channels, a thermistor for thermal control, a fiber array attachment, and break-out boards compatible with various voltage and current sources interfaces. The coupling loss measured after fiber attachment was around 3 dB per facet. The unique performance of the integrated programmable spectral filter could substitute the typical bulk wavelength shapers.
